Episode 19 : Blair Witch

This week, returning as if from the dead from their (significant) hiatus, Sarah and Phil take a look at Adam Wingard’s Blair Witch, as well as discussing a screening of The Blair Witch Project they both went to out in the woods. Spooky…

I don’t have a problem with ‘found footage’ films. Yet, I’m not a huge fan of the ‘waving a hand held camera around to make things scarey’ (there are films that show nothing, but scared the shit out of me… and yet didn’t make me feel travel sick).

But as a premise it, in itself, doesn’t suck.

What I do have a problem with is characters in any film that are moronically stupid. ALL moronically stupid. Even the ones that are supposed to not be moronically stupid.

We are lost in the woods, and shit is getting ‘kin scarey. Lets throw away our best method of getting out of here (I’m talking about the map). And let none of us think ‘that’s a stupid idea… I’ll pick that up. It may be damp. But a damp map is better than…’ oh, sorry. I was trying to apply a small amount of logic to this largely farcical film.

Yeah, I’m not a huge fan of Blair Witch.

Maybe I just went into it expecting something else. Perhaps I too should watch it again.

But really, I don’t feel the urge. I could spend that time watching ‘Tucker and Dale…’ again.
