Very good indie flick to be sure, I noticed in another another blog, or maybe this one about the split screen...I liked it. Every film has its issues and COTH is no exception, I would have preferred less trash metal. But hay that's just personal opinion. If you like Horror and I do, then this must surely go on your list of ones to watch.

Loved the cast. I chuckled a bunch. I may even watch the flick. I thought of loads of insightful stuff to say whilst listening, but kept drinking. So the only thing that comes to mind now is... J. Doing a cast on a film you haven't seen would just suck. Watch it!!! And S. You watch it too. You'd look dead daft if J sounded better informed.

I'll listen to this cast again at some point and post the insightful shit. I'm pretty sure some of it had something to do with the 'rules' and it being an 80's movie (this may also have something to do with tits too, but I'll have to get back to you on that).

Absolute genius!

It is dreadful to the point of greatness. Many slightly less than living, ambulatory citizens of the world are unfairly maligned for their natural urges to eat peoples brains, or to tear them limb from limb. Not in this case. They are evil to their core. They are unremitting Nazi Zombies!

There is very little to recommend this film, other than all of it.

The back of the box mentions the word 'comedy'. But I couldn't see it myself. That said, I laughed my bol... um... socks of on several occasions towards the end. This was probably assisted by a few glasses of wine.

I wouldn't recommend dashing out to buy it. But is certainly one to be borrowed and watched when you have watched everything else. Gather a bunch of like minded mates (who also love poor horror movies), and ply them (and yourself) with cheap booze.

If you don't come out of it thinking 'I actually really enjoyed that', then don't bother coming to a movie night round mine.

Some good points in the review Dave - although in Eric Heisserers defence the original characters weren't exactly lovable with very little background. I think and like the 2011 film as a whole its a homage that compliments Carpenter's version.

Possibly from repeat viewings of 1982 version the characters have really bedded in over the years. I've watched the 1982 version with a few newbies and they have problems keeping track initially of who's who. After seeing 2011 three times, I missed Lars the second time around, even remembered his name so there's hope.

With regards to the brazenness of The Thing from a story perspective its in-keeping and it makes sense that it's more active as to quote Mac "it wakes up, probably not the best of moods." Also it's possible it learns for the events in the Norwegian camp and is therfore a little more subtle and clever when it gets to the American camp, " I don't know. Because it's different than us. Because it's from outer space. What more do you want from me," I didn't write it but you're spot on - the CGI is distracting. :)

Keep up the great work - love the site.

It's so true, this movie is SO horrible, I laughed a few times because it was soooo darn horrible... The acting sux, and the guy whos clipped the movie together has slashed over most of the end dialogue when switching from over the shoulder of one of the characters to the other.

The only thing it needed to become 'watchable for some' is to create more gay sex scenes and take a place among the porn shelves.

So if you're bored and think gayness is fun and you like to indulge urself in B-movies where nothing has gone right, then this is the perfect movie for you.

its been said to be that the creepy person at the end of the first movie is the man who lived upstairs who hadnt been seen in months. he had created the virus in an attempt to destroy the human race and caught the virus himself. if this is so, how can the hamster man in the second movie be the man who created the virus (as it is sugessted)?

I completely agree with your review.

The Dead is definitely a must see; a moving and emotional movie - not much more I can say as you've said it all perfectly above.

You're thinking of "Zombies! Zombies! Zombies!" which is also known as Strippers vs Zombies in other countries outside of the US and also the sub-title in the UK - and that was the less "good" out of the zombies / strippers mash-up films...

Well I doubt Strippers vs. Werewolves can be as bad as Zombies! Zombies! Zombies! or Zombie Strippers. And I think the strippers DO become werewolves, because in the trailer you see some ladies with huge fangs. Perhaps vampires are involved too?

Who knows.

Guess we'll have to wait until 2012 to find out!

Sorry... it was just Zombie Strippers... definitely a big difference, sine, in that one, the strippers WERE the zombies, whereas this one seems to involve the strippers shoting guns and making 'splosions.

There WAS a strippers vs. zombies movie, from what I remember, that I watched part of off of Netflix, but could not sit through until the end.

If it's even close to being as bad as Zombies vs. Strippers (also starring Englund), then I would say that everyone should PASS.

Also, at first, i thought Bill Murray!?!?! Why!?!?!?!

But it's BILLY Murray. I get it now.

Totally agree with Scullion, although he forgot to mention that the special effects are also a pixel-porridge travesty. But mostly I just found it excruciatingly un-funny and offensively homophobic

Hello I found your review helpful and for the most part accurate. I must say I have played dead rising, left 4 dead, and resident evil 5. I have come to the conclusion that Dead Island is by far the most enjoyable, pure fun experience.

Of course, the developer of the game isnt well known and I would imagine aren't top notch, so some of the game is a bit rough around the edges, minor mistakes that should have been corrected in quality assurance testing but weren't probably due to rush release when the hype for this game was through the roof.

I think Dead Rising was too "arcadey" style, non realistic, and the gameplay questionable. And what games are made in 2011 that feature characters who dont speak but communicate through subtitles? Left 4 Dead was great, not many complaints besides a lack luster single player campaign. Resident Evil 5 was great except for slow gameplay and poor aiming controls. My point, I dont think any of those 3 games put EVERYTHING together that zombie fans wanted in a video game, I think Dead Island came close to achieving this.

Classic zombie apocalypse scenarios, realistic high quality graphics, Fallout style item collection, large amount of varying weapons customizable, escort missions, survivor safe houses, deep zombie damage system, unique missions/storyline, great gameplay, and long duration.

Overall, yes I agree rough around the edges with the glitches of zombies falling threw walls, punching through closed doors, odd save system which doesnt let you save anytime and respawns seemingly in random areas, and at times the games graphics have cut in and rendering slows downs, sound cuts in and out. But these are uncommon and not very bothersome. Very tolerable.

Hope a sequel is to follow which corrects some of the minor annoyances, enhances what it does right, and adds a local 2 player Co-Op mode.

Also DLC content?

Hey Rag,

That's the joy of films - they divide opinion! I cannot legitimately add 2 or 3 skulls to this review based on it being really good fun - otherwise absolute shit like Shark in Venice would get 8 of out 10 for being so utterly terrible it's accidentally hilarious. I try and look at a film as a whole, not just whether it was a forgettable laugh or not!

Preist's budget was an estimated $60 million - how is that not having a "huge Hollywood budget". That's massive!

Perhaps it's your love of Doomsday that suggests to me you have a love for this sort of film - I found Doomsday to be a little "messy" to say the least - but I'm glad someone liked it. And liked Priest. I found it predictable and horribly overwrought, but that's just me...

Keep having differing opinions! It's what makes reviewing / watching / enjoying / hating films so interesting!!

I feel kinda bad. I'm starting to get the impression that the only times I put finger to keyboard is to disagree with the estimed Mr S. And yet I hold him in such high regard (even before he got quoted on the big screen).

But once again I feel his standards are too high. He is not appreciating this film for what it is. It is a comic (or graphic novel/movie if you wanna get arsey). It doesn't have a huge Hollywood budget, and really doesn't try to be.

For me it ticks so many boxes. I love post appocalytic, cyber/steam punk, vampire, action and medieval genres. Finding them all in one film filled me with as much glee as I got from watching Doomsday. And in this one they have huge bikes (who hasn't read 2000ad and not wanted a Lawmaster)!!!

No, it's not particularly slick. It's not particularly tightly scripted. It's not going to challenge your views on life. But it is damn good fun. Things explode, vamps jump about really fast, the heroes cut up an shoot the bad guys, characters agonise over mildy pretentious shit. And there are big bikes!. It is a couple of hours of my life that I consider well spent. And fully intend to spend it at least once or twice more.

You can ask more from a movie... But you can get so much less. Add 2 or 3 skulls and you got my rating.

I think there's one obvious wrong feature of this film: isn't the forth film in a trashy horror series supposed to be set in space - a'la Critters / Leprechaun?

Well, I guess they went with the secondary option and go for a prequel then. It worked quite well for Tremors after all.

I'm sure there are plenty of other film series that follow the rules of "Part 4 should be set in space / in the past". (Actually, didn't Hellraiser 4 tick both boxes in the one film?)

Anyway, I loved the second film in the Wrong Turn series, I doubt this will be up there with that but glad to hear it's (slightly) better than pt 3. Maybe I'll give it a go.

I'm with you, Rag. It just didn't vibe with me in the right way. I've watched it twice now just to make sure it wasn't my mood or whatever, but no.

Like everyone is saying; the performances are all excellent, the gore is handled well, but the tone is so spread thin that it just doesn't sit well.
