Press release details below:
The director of the HP Lovecraft’s Re-Animator is to host a special screening of his 1985 horror classic on Monday August 20th at 9pm at The Cameo Picturehouse in Edinburgh. This will be followed by a rare question and answer session from the master of horror himself, writer and director Stuart Gordon along with songs from his stage adaptation of the movie, Edinburgh Fringe Festival smash hit Re-Animator the Musical!
“Herbert West has a very good head on his shoulders… and another one in a dish on his desk!”
Deep within the morgue at Miskatonic University, arrogant madman West (Jeffrey Combs) introduces fellow graduate student Dan Cain (Bruce Abbott) to his startling formula for the re-animation of fresh corpses. But the secret of life and death has some very messy consequences. Get ready to re-experience one of the most outrageously inventive horror films of all time.
Stuart Gordon is a director, writer and producer of films and plays of considerable repute . Most of his film work is in the horror genre, though he has also ventured into science fiction. Like his friend and fellow filmmaker Brian Yuzna, Gordon is a fan of H. P. Lovecraft and has adapted several Lovecraft stories for the screen. They include Re-Animator, From Beyond, Castle Freak (from The Outsider), and Dagon, as well as the Masters of Horror episode “Dreams in the Witch-House”.
Prior to the Re-Animator movie, he spent fifteen years as the founder and artistic director of the Organic Theater of Chicago, where he co-created and directed 37 original productions including Bleacher Bums, and the world premiere of David Mamet’s Sexual Perversity in Chicago. Gordon has also directed four more films based on Lovecraft (among them From Beyond and Dagon.) Gordon’s most recent stage credits include the still running Nevermore, An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe starring Re-Animator film star Jeffrey Combs.
A critical and audience sensation across the United State Re-Animator The Musical starring Cheers star George Wendt is currently enjoying its UK premiere run at The Assembly George Square Theatre until August 27th
If you’re in Edinburgh, you HAVE to see this. Fantastic stuff.
